Occupying an area of 5,500 square meters, the Chongqing Museum also called China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing is the largest monographic museum, boasting more than 40 exhibition halls with roughly 100,000 items of relics from the ancient Kingdom of Ba to the Chinese Revolution.

Location
The museum stands on the top of the Pipashan Mountain in the center of Chongqing and just opposite to the Chongqing People¡¯s Hall.

History of Chongqing Museum
It was firstly built I 1951 with Southwest Museum as its name. Later, the museum was renamed as Chongqing Museum in 1955. it was officially opened to the public on June 18th, 2005.

Characteristics
Chongqing Museum is regarded as a key platform for cultural exchange of the Three Gorges Area owing to its unique culture, top management as well as comprehensive cultural relics.
The museum mainly focuses on the culture in Sichuan, modern history of Chongqing, the folk customs in the city, the Three Gorges as well as relic collections.
Antiquities mainly consist of pottery, paintings, porcelain, sculptures and so on. Among them, relics of Ba-Shu culture, terra-cotta, paintings in several dynasties as well as sculpture of Han Dynasty are of great fame in particular.
In addition, there¡¯re also collections of traditional cultural relics such as calligraphies and pictures from the Song Dynasty.
